This enchanting 1930s floor sweeping bias cut silver lamé gown with matching cropped jacket is in beautiful vintage condition with exquisite finishings although unlabeled. The soft ivory and pale blue striped silk fabric is arranged alongside the central front seam in diagonals to create a chevron pattern. There is gleaming silver lamé thread machine-stitched over the surface of the fabric in a swirling loop design so that the fabric is slightly textured. The dress features a subtle sweetheart neckline and wide set shoulder straps, with sunburst gathering and pleats below the bust that are gathered into the empire waistline. The long skirt flows from the waistline in soft folds to a hand rolled hem finishing and the bias cut allows for a generous fit over the hip. There is a series of concealed popper fastenings to the left of the waist so that the dress is more easily accessed. The matching cropped jacket is collarless and designed to be worn open without fastenings. The quarter length sleeves are gathered at the shoulder into a feminine puff and tapered slightly above the elbow. There is a pretty rolled seam at the centre front and hem. This spellbinding piece would be perfect for black tie, or would make a sensational vintage bridal ensemble. Would best fit a US size 4, UK 8 with some give in the hip.
